General Information
The 22nd Alaska State Legislature has convened a task force to
address the crisis facing the salmon industry.
The Task Force has met twice to continue
organizational work, including selection of subcommittee members. On
September 15-16 the Task Force and the additional public members of
the sub-committees will meet to receive briefings and discuss the
“straw man” issues. These issues will be further discussed during
public hearings that will be held around the state this fall and
winter, and at Fish Expo in Seattle.
The Task Force has been charged with the responsibility to submit a
report to the Legislature by January 31, 2003.
Mission Statement
The goal of the Legislative Salmon Industry Task Force is to
evaluate the State of Alaska's statutory framework for Alaska's wild
salmon industry as well as current industry practices and to make
recommendations for statutory, regulatory and structural changes
that will improve the industry while recognizing Alaska's coastal
economy.
If you have a suggestion you want to have the Task Force
consider, you are encouraged to submit your proposal in the format
TITLE, PROBLEM, DISCUSSION, RECOMMENDATIONS . If you do not want to use the
