Of course, there will be impacts. Yes, there will be change to communities.

There will be no end to the environmental monitoring.

On the other hand, the Pebble Project, a Northern Dynasty Mines proposal to develop an open-pit gold, copper, molybdenum and silver mine near Iliamna, also stands to bring jobs - lots of jobs - and other opportunities to Alaska and Alaskans.

Political compromises with our natural resources got us into this mess. They drove healthy fish, wildlife and plant species into decline. 28. BC: Fish farm report delayed for election, memos leaked, so eat wild salmon

…last week, damaging documents leaked out about how the B.C. government protects salmon farming. Farm operators have given $70,000 to the B.C. Liberals.

"Finfish and shellfish growth will need to be managed politically," Fisheries Minister John van Dongen said in a 2002 letter leaked to the Times Colonist.

A letter draft confirmed that Atlantic salmon from fish farms escape and reproduce in Pacific waters. The sentence was deleted with a note from van Dongen's aide: "Technically correct, but politically problematic."
